With the opening of the Olympics last night and with the media pretty much hanging out in smog engulfed Beijing, maybe we can all enjoy a much needed break from the politics. Obama is taking a week’s vacation in Hawaii and I have no doubt he and his family will enjoy that. Best of all, less attention will be paid to McCain’s doddering around and that’s a relief.
On the other hand it may give too many people a chance to try and dig up more damaging tidbits about Obama. And how many more nuts are out there like the one that was arrested in Florida yesterday for threatening to assassinate him? Sometimes I think it’s too scary, too frustrating, too irritating to even turn the TV on – which is probably the reason I don’t very often. I can get all the information I could possibly need by going online and even that’s enough to make me angry and frustrated if I read too much.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m quite sure time is passing considerably faster than it did when I was in my 30s or 40s – even 50s, but right now it’s not passing nearly as fast as I would like. I’m ready for these elections to be over and let’s really move into the 21st century – at least politically speaking, with a new face, a new approach and most important of all -- new hope. New hope for our country, for our children and theirs, and hey, even for us old guys!
I’m so ready for a new day!
